Day 56
Student Contribution by Emyly
Overview of the Period
We started by separating two lists of different crops and livestock into items from the Americas and items from Afroeursia. Afterwards, we picked a crop/livestock each and wrote about why that was the most important thing in the world. Individually, I looked for more instances of corruption in humanity for our project.

Emyly’s Response
Classwork like our checklists helps memorize important content and I think that from outside world news it intrigues me to look more into it and then it gives me a little more background knowledge.
I think I’ve learned to connect more outside things to topics in class in our humanity project specifically, and anything we talk about in class I can easily connect to our checklists.
I want to learn more about different cultures and customs because it is something that I’ve always been curious about and I feel like it will help me connect with more people.
I feel like I get distracted because I get too intrigued into the topic. I start going further into it to the point I end up somewhere that isn’t related to what I’m supposed to be doing.

My Response
They actually enjoyed — more or less — the writing process. It seemed easy, and in six minutes they came up with powerful responses. But, they had a purpose, an audience, and evidence they could explain. I need to do more quick writes and evaluating on why they used certain words or evidence. Have them explain their evidence and how it supports. I’m on a roll with this and hopefully will keep doing this type of writing.

I have been there too many times to recall. While it’s great that she is into her topic, the challenge is staying tied to the topic. Off topic research can lead to wonderful insights, but with the limited time we have in class there has to be a better way to log what she is doing without it seeming too tedious. I’ve tried Google Keep and there are a few students who are using it. I’m not sure that is the best for everyone.
